The idea of Geocoins is to travel around and to log its
travels online at
www.geocaching.com/track (using the tracking code, the 6 letter/digit code
engraved onto the Geocoin). Geocoins are a variation of the Geocaching Travelbug
tags. Some of these have made extensive journeys, like the "Travel
Home" that was released in California in August of 2004 and returned to its
home in Germany in December 2006. Geocoins are
available from online stores such as
www.CacheZone.eu.
If you found or
received one of these Geocoins you have several options. Preferably you would
make a log entry yourself at
www.geocaching.com/track. To do that you need to create an account (it's
free) and later make another log about where you released it.
In case this sounds like too much work we offer you an
alternative: hide the coin in a publicly accessible area, maybe under a stone,
in a hole in a tree or similar. Then send us an email with a detailed
description of where you placed it AND THE GEOCOIN'S TRACKING CODE.
If you can, supply GPS coordinates, pictures, drawings, anything that would help
to find it. We will then make appropriate postings at the Geocaching web pages.
Using the tracking code you can keep watching the Geocoin's
movement at the Geocaching web pages and see how far it travels. |
